Biography

Thank you for visiting my online portfolio. My name is Dean West and I am a keen Photographer, Web and Graphic Designer.

Having taken the decision to re-train in web and graphic design, following a successful career in medical administration, I have just over 2 years web building experience under my belt, I have recently succeeded in passing the Level III Web Design Diploma qualification with a distinction, and am now an Associate Member of the Certified IT Professionals.

Following many years of interest in photography, I was able to study at the Reading School of Photography in 2008. As a result, I have a deep understanding of composition, aperture and lens selection, metering, ISO rating and essentially what goes in to making a fantastic picture. Additionally, learning Photoshop has enabled me to take ideas and concepts and tailor them to suit my needs as a web and graphic designer. A skill I enjoy tremendously.

What I find most rewarding about being a web and graphic designer is the platform it provides for my creative skills. Using colour imagery, photography, design and animation, I attempt to engage with the public in ways which enable the product or service to sell itself.

Following the completion of a number of commercial projects over recent months, I have developed many core skills, such as working to agreed time frames, and to exact remits. I am able to conceptualise sometimes vague ideas, turning them into visually interesting web or graphic designs. Further work has been secured as a result of these skills.

In addition to my own continual development, ongoing study and private work, I am keen to secure employment as a junior designer. I have an excellent eye for colour, composition and design. I have broad knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite CS4, I bring a wealth of business experience from previous occupations and with my personal dedication to succeed in this field, I believe I would become an asset to any design company.
